The second installment
Masters of Photography II – same brilliance, entirely different style
Building on from our last collaboration with the fabulous Rankin we are thrilled to announce the second installment of our Masters of Photography series – this time featuring the true living legend that is Scotland born Albert Watson.
To bring those not tuned into the world of photography up to speed on Albert Watson and his work, he is one of the few photographers in the world who has seen one of his prints go for $108,000 in auction. What's more, he's also the mastermind behind posters for major Hollywood films such as 'Kill Bill', 'Memoirs of a Geisha', 'The Da Vinci Code', as well as over 200 covers for Vogue and Rolling Stone Magazine. We could go on and on about the brilliance of his portfolio and credentials, but we reckon it's better to show you the goods – have a look at his stunning website and lots more here.
At the moment we are keeping the theme of the next Masters of Photography project secret, but we can tell you that the key ingredients include: a dramatic and yet romantic 'art noir' voyage, a stylish couple and the secret behind The Macallan. The final result will be revealed by The Macallan at a series of events later in 2010 and early 2011, but expect more details about this exciting new collaboration on our blog in the months to come.
In the meantime, you will hopefully enjoy, this insightful set of interviews that start with Albert Watson recounting his career – from early days as a photographer (late 1960s and 1970s), to full blown professional photographer living in New York working for the biggest names in the fashion industry (1980s). All in all an inspiring story based on talent, mastery and hard work, all values that are at the core of The Macallan.
