Meeting our new Brand Ambassador North East USA

Charlie Whitfield recently joined The Macallan family as the Brand Ambassador North East USA. We asked Charlie a few questions about himself and his new job.

How did you get to The Macallan?

Born in Edinburgh, I used to work in the Duty Free industry. Having moved to New York and recently married my American wife I've now landed my dream job. On reflection, one can argue it was destined to happen. When I was two years old, my grandmother entered me into a raffle, and I won first prize – two cases of The Macallan 10 Years Old! I didn't find this out until a few years later when my father handed me a case and told me the story. Unfortunately, one case had mysteriously disappeared! I still have one bottle, though, which I'm slowly nursing back at my apartment. The Macallan also played a part in my proposal to my wife in the snowy Scottish Highlands last year, but that is another story!

What is your role as Brand Ambassador for The Macallan?

I act as the face of the brand, representing its history, craftsmanship and unique quality. Whether it is introducing people to The Macallan for the first time or further enhancing people's understanding and appreciation of such a quality dram, I am here to educate and ensure everyone's enjoyment.

In your first few months what has been the best moment?

Visiting the distillery is an incredible experience, seeing the spiritual home of The Macallan, where and how the whisky is produced and matured and, most importantly, meeting the people who make it all happen.
Your favourite Macallan and why?

At the moment in the heat of summer here in New York it has to be The Macallan Fine Oak 15, a lighter style Macallan expression that takes well to a drop of water or ice, yet is still full of complex and delicious flavours of chocolate, orange and vanilla.

Passionate, energetic, inquisitive

Patience, appreciation, knowledge

Whisky, Fishing, Golf

Your proudest moment as a part of The Macallan family?

Telling my wife, family and friends that I had become part of The Macallan family, and that indirectly they had too!

First thing that comes to mind when we say "Scottish culture"?

Pride

First thing that comes to mind when we say "The Macallan"?

Simply put, it brings a broad smile to my face.

Favourite holiday involving a dram?

Having a wee dram at the top of a mountain whilst ski-ing

Can't live without?

My wife, family and sharing a bottle of Macallan 18 with friends

Most likely to be seen where?

When not working or travelling, you might find me on the ski slopes, on a rugby field, reading in the park or finding new restaurants to try out with friends.

Most likely to say?
