The Macallan
Fine & Rare 1926

1926

The Year that Was

The Macallan was managed by Janet Harbinson, the modest daughter of Roderick Kemp, who had bought the distillery in 1892. Also in this year, Gertrude Ederle became the first person to swim the 22 mile English Channel, taking 14 hours and 31 minutes; the first telephone calls were made between London and New York; and Scotland’s John Logie Baird demonstrated the world’s first TV.
