The Macallan, like a keeper of time and which houses the rarest original whiskies of all vintages in sherry casks, has selected the best oak casks to produce The Macallan AERA, a highly complex classic Macallan style of dried fruit flavours and aromas, with sweet hints of chocolate and honey, to celebrate and commemorate every precious moment in life.
The first milestone in the creation of The Macallan AERA is the selection of the highest quality American and European oak. The precious oak is grown from a single acorn to a tree, transported from the woodlands of America and northern Spain to Jerez in southern Spain, where it is naturally dried for up to four years, hand-crafted into casks and seasoned for up to two years in Sherry wine, and turned into the finest sherry casks.
After a long journey to Scotland, they are filled with new make spirit and matured over a long period of time, resulting in distinctive notes of which The Macallan is known for. . This single malt whisky is characterised by dried fruit sweetness, intertwined with rich honey notes, and a burst of refreshing citrus to enrich the flavour, leaving a long, lingering malt sweetness and a warming finish. Tasting this single malt whisky is an enriching journey for the taste buds.

Each Macallan single malt whisky demonstrates The Macallan's uncompromising commitment to the craft of cask making and distilling since its inception in 1824. This persistence is a testament to our unrelenting desire to go beyond the ordinary, pursue excellence, and create the perfect single malt whisky.
We are firmly committed to using sherry casks as the keystone of The Macallan single malt whisky, and our reputation for excellence is testament to the exceptional quality of the casks used to craft our whisky. These carefully selected casks, from the material selection, production, toasting to moistening, are under the watchful eye of The Macallan Master of Wood to meet the ultra-high standards of The Macallan Whisky Mastery Team.
After the casks are filled, the matured spirits are left to rest in the same casks for a certain number of years, according to the flavour profile of the particular Macallan expression. The essence of The Macallan single malt whisky is its excellent quality, natural colour, and distinctive aroma and flavour, and it is the oak casks that contribute most to these characteristics.
