Concept Number 2: A Celebration of Creative Synergy

Creativity takes many forms. It is often a process requiring a mixture of considered intentionality, dedicated perseverance, and bold and brave intuition. The Macallan Concept Number 2, our second release of the Concept series celebrates the similarities in the creative approaches of crafting whisky and creating music. 

The creative process for both music and a single malt whisky can take a similar path. The layering of sounds can be placed down like the layering of different flavours from specific cask types. Each different cask brings its own influence to the character of the whisky, like each instrument, or sound, adds depth to a track. In both cases, each different element, whether it be flavour or sounds, can be enhanced or played down as required. 

This particular release brought together two passions of Whisky Maker, Steven Bremner. Beyond being part of our Whisky Master Team, Steven is also an avid house music DJ, and has curated a unique playlist inspired by Concept Number 2. 

The Macallan Concept Number 2 arises from a collection of exceptional casks, producing a rich and rewarding multi-sensory experience. Sherry-seasoned American oak casks bring a rhythmic sweetness of vanilla, citrus and toffee. This is married with the rounded spiciness of Miguel Martin sherry casks, while ex-bourbon casks introduce harmonies of floral citrus and vanilla.  

Just as Steven is informed by years of dedicated experience and practiced discernment in layering sounds, he applied the same process and intentionality in creating the rich flavours that make up Concept Number 2. As a character-led whisky, it is not constrained by a particular timeframe. Similarly, Concept Number 1 is inspired by the world of surrealist art, daring to disrupt the whisky making process by incorporating innovative production techniques.

Through a synergistic celebration of music and whisky, the second release in this series brings to front the knowledge, experience and skills that go into producing our single malts. From Natural Colour to the Finest Cut, this spirit exemplifies the spirit and singular qualities present in our iconic six pillars that form the foundation of The Macallan.
