Capturing the Mastery of Wood and Spirit

The incredible wood journey that underpins The Macallan Double Cask, as seen through the lens of globally renowned photographer Steve McCurry, documents the people, places and processes involved in the production of The Macallan’s exceptional oaks casks. This journey culminates on The Macallan Estate in Speyside, Scotland.

There, our American and European oak sherry seasoned casks are filled with The Macallan new-make spirit and laid to patiently mature in our warehouses. Following years of slumber, The Macallan’s Whisky Mastery Team use their skill and expertise to select the best balance of spirit from both the American and European oak sherry seasoned casks to create The Macallan Double Cask. 

The Whisky Mastery Team carefully monitors the maturation of our spirit, sampling and discerning the potential for the distinct characteristics that make up The Macallan Double Cask. This team are experts in the art of crafting whisky, and each bring their own strengths to the task. Only once a cask has reached its full potential will it be carefully selected. 

The Macallan Double Cask captures The Macallan’s continued commitment to the pursuit of uncompromised excellence. The flavour of the range is honey, sweet and rounded, delivering a distinctive American oak style. The delicate flavour of American oak – vanilla, citrus and light oak - rises in prominence as The Macallan’s traditional character of rich fruit, sherry and wood spice affords a familiar backdrop.

The skills, dedication and knowledge of the Whisky Mastery Team have created a range of expressions that are distinctly versatile. The unique characteristics come to life when enjoyed neat, with ice or in a serve. The new Double Cask expressions demonstrate The Macallan’s enduring desire to go beyond the ordinary, to seek out the extraordinary, and create peerless single malts.
