The Year that Was
The US state of California celebrated its centennial anniversary, while the first ever charge card payment is made in New York using a Diners Club card. The Stone of Destiny, the traditional coronation stone of Scottish kings and queens, was stolen from beneath the British coronation throne in Westminster Abbey by four Scottish nationalist students. It was later recovered in Scotland in 1951.
