Easter Elchies House
The Spiritual Home of The Macallan
Nestled in the rolling hills of the 485-acre Macallan Estate lies Easter Elchies House. Built in 1700 from locally quarried sandstone for Captain John Grant of Elchies as his holiday home, the house graces the hillside above the picturesque River Spey, famous for its salmon fishing beat.
In 1820 Alexander Reid rented the house and farm and, four years later, with the full support of the laird he established the first licensed distillery on the site.
As our Spiritual Home, Easter Elchies represents so much more than a small piece of history on a portion of land in Speyside; it provides grounding for a kind of wisdom that is only found through dedication and sacrifice. It embodies our commitment to remembering the investment and choices that have shaped us and will continue to do so going forward.
