THE MACALLAN ON FILM

The story that blends The Macallan and cinema together is as intriguing as the spirit itself.  Across many years of film history, The Macallan has quietly secured a place in the pantheon of cinematic icons. From the first images that captured motion, cinema unleashed an extraordinary double power into the world.

As chief executive of The Macallan from 1979 to 1996 and a Hollywood screenwriter, Allan Shiach has also lived two lives, blending them with singular accomplishment. The screenplay for Don’t Look Now, written as Allan Scott, was a first global success. He  is also credited as the co-creator of The Queen’s Gambit, Netflix’s break-out show during the pandemic, jointly written from a short story he had spotted thirty years earlier.

CELEBRATING THE SIX DECADES OF BOND

On October 5th, 1962, Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli and Harry Saltzman released Dr No. It was the first official James Bond story to be shown in cinemas. Inspired by Ian Fleming’s novels, the film was a runaway hit. Its arrival marked the birth of a legend, launching the one of the world's most successful cinema franchise. Sixty years later, the James Bond phenomenon, a cultural icon of heroic resolve, is stronger than ever.

In six decades, there have been 25 official James Bond films. Six different actors have taken the lead role. While each has contributed their own flair the character of Bond has remained remarkably consistent. His values – the deep-down ones – are ageless.

The same holds true for The Macallan. For almost two hundred years, the single malt whisky from Speyside has met change and challenges with resourceful adaptability, whilst remaining similarly constant. The whisky’s distinct and enduring nature tells of exceptional quality.
