A Macallan with a surprisingly distinctive attitude, Rare Cask Black is a whisky unlike any other Macallan today. Less than 100 casks maturing at The Macallan distillery have contributed to the creation of this out of character whisky. These mysterious casks remained untouched in the dark warehouses of The Macallan under the watchful eye of our Master Whisky Maker, until he felt they were ready to be released.

This whisky tells a different story of The Macallan spirit and casks, but more than that it tells a story of rarity. Smoky Macallan is rare, there is very little in existence and once used these casks will be no more. Unexpectedly and distinctively smoky in flavour with full bodied richness from the Macallan spirit, Rare Cask Black combines dried fruits, nutmeg, ginger and beautifully polished oak plus dates, figs and raisins, heavy but sweet. A dry smokiness reveals itself yielding to softer oak tones. The finish is long, fruity with an elegant wood smoke.

The Macallan goes beyond simply creating whisky. This is apparent in a new interpretation of Rare Cask Black, reimagined through the eyes of a master of visual ambiguity, Steven Klein.

Unlike any other Macallan today, Rare Cask Black has a surprising yet subtle distinctive smoky flavour which still gives you the full bodied richness of the spirit's DNA from 100% sherry seasoned European and American oak casks.
