The Year that Was

Traditional peat smoke still characterised The Macallan, while major technological breakthroughs elsewhere saw the release of Charlie Chaplin’s first ‘talkie’ movie, ‘Modern Times’, and Amelia Earhart, became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. Pablo Picasso completed his famous painting, ‘Guernica’, and, in the USA, John Steinbeck’s novella, Of Mice and Men, was published.
