The Macallan Colour Collection is a celebration of the natural colours, complex flavours and aromas imbued by our exceptional sherry seasoned oak casks during the maturation process.
Designed in collaboration with eminent artist and graphic designer David Carson, the Collection features five exceptional age statement whiskies crafted by The Macallan Whisky Mastery Team. Each intricate layer of Carson’s designs uniquely interprets the complex story of each expression. Evocative of the colours, shapes and textures of the Jerez de la Frontera region and those of The Macallan Distillery in Speyside, this Collection captures the rich tasting notes and the spectrum of natural colours that develop.

THE SPECTRUM OF NATURAL COLOUR
At the core of the Colour Collection resides the spectrum of natural hues found in each expression, nurtured over years of maturation in exceptional sherry seasoned oak casks sourced from Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
Comprising five exceptional single malts, each expression in the Collection deepens in colour. From the golden oak of the 12 Years Old to the burnished chestnut of the 30 Years Old, each draws its Natural Colour, rich aromas and depth of flavours through years of interaction with the exceptional sherry seasoned oak casks.
INSPIRED BY JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA
The Macallan Colour Collection draws inspiration from the captivating Jerez de la Frontera region of Spain, where the story of our casks begins. This otherworldly land, bordered by the expansive Atlantic Ocean, is a singular land of hot summers, historic vineyards and fine wines.
It is here that our exceptional oak casks are seasoned with fine sherry wine and it is these sherry seasoned oak casks which are the single greatest contributor to the quality, flavours and distinctive aromas at the heart of our single malt whiskies and which give our whiskies their unique Natural Colour.
With the design of the Colour Collection, David Carson has embodied the tasting notes of each exquisite expression and captured the pale landscapes and warm, natural hues of Jerez de la Frontera.
CRAFTSMANSHIP AND SUSTAINABILITY
The Macallan's dedication to craftsmanship goes beyond the whisky itself. The exquisite presentation boxes for the 12, 15, and 18 Years Old expressions are crafted using eco-friendly materials and are entirely recyclable. For the 21 and 30 Years Old expressions, meticulously carved wooden boxes made from oak harvested from sustainable forests are used. These boxes serve the dual purpose of safeguarding the whisky and can be repurposed, showcasing our unwavering commitment to durability and environmental consciousness.

Our Distillery, nestled within the rolling hills of Speyside, serves as an inspiration for the Colour Collection’s reimagined visual identity. The silhouette of the Distillery, with its five hills mirroring the curves of the River Spey, has shaped the visual elements found throughout the Colour Collection’s branding. From the elegant wave patterns adorning the packaging to the distinctive arc of "The Macallan Scotland" icon, the visual identity harmoniously blends the natural surroundings with state-of-the-art technology, honouring the brand's rich heritage while embracing modernity.
MEET DAVID CARSON
David Carson is an American born artist and graphic designer who is frequently credited with transforming the field of graphic design. Self-taught, resolutely grid-free, and unafraid to speak his mind, Carson is famous for his unconventional and incomparable approach to graphic design. His work has been displayed in one-man shows across the world and he is a recipient of the AIGA Gold medal, which is renowned as the design profession’s highest accolade. Since establishing his own studio, he has created campaigns for some of the world’s leading consumer brands including Nike, Levi, Microsoft, British Airways, Bose, Pepsi and Ray Ban. He was among only two graphic designers selected by Apple as part of its iconic ‘30 most innovative users’ list. Apple called Carson “a pioneer with profound impact”.
