    Collaborations

    In Collaboration with 007

On October 5th, 1962, Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli and Harry Saltzman released Dr No. It was the first official James Bond story to be shown in cinemas. Inspired by Ian Fleming’s novel, the film was a runaway hit. Its arrival marked the birth of a legend, launching one of the world's most successful cinema franchises. Sixty years later, the James Bond phenomenon, a cultural icon of heroic resolve, is stronger than ever.

To celebrate a year since we launched The Macallan James Bond 60th Anniversary Release, we reflect on our shared values with James Bond Producers – Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli – and Archive Director, Meg Simmonds.

    Scotland

James Bond and The Macallan are bound together by a shared Scottish heritage. Ian Fleming’s Bond was born to a Scottish father, Andrew Bond, and he spent time at the family’s Scottish Estate in Glencoe.

“The landscape tells the story. James Bond’s Scottish roots were really fundamental to who he was as a character.”

    Barbara Brocolli

    Innovation

James Bond and The Macallan are pioneering and innovative characters. A man of perennial evolution, Bond films have become closely associated with ingenious 007 gadgets used on his mission to deliver for the greater good.

“The gadgets have always been aspirational… sometimes things that don’t exist, even now but could possibly exist.”

    Meg Simmonds

    The Whisky of Choice

The Macallan has become James Bond’s whisky of choice in recent years, reflecting his appreciation for the finer things in life. They have shared many moments together on screen, including in Skyfall when Bond drinks The Macallan Fine & Rare 1962 as an ode to the 50th anniversary.

“Confidence, passion, loyalty, appreciation for the good things in life. Capturing these values and behaviours in a whisky was a journey that we really enjoyed.”
