Through our creative collaboration with photographer Erik Madigan Heck, each expression in the Double Cask and Sherry Oak Collections are distinctively represented as a complex sensorial journey.
Inspired by classic, Flemish still life paintings of the 17th century, Erik provides his visual interpretation of The Macallan's Double Cask and Sherry Oak Collections in a series of photographs that capture the essence of each single malt, all through the lens of his unique signature style.

MEET ERIK MADIGAN HECK
Describing himself as a painter who uses photography, Erik’s work is a contemporary extension of Romanticism; showcasing and celebrating both nature and beauty, much like The Macallan.
In 2011, Erik was awarded the renowned '30 Under 30' award by Forbes Magazine. He also received the prestigious ICP Affinity Award in 2013, the Art Directors Club's Gold Medal in 2015 and the AI-IP American Photography award for his Old Masters Portfolio, published by The New York Times Magazine.
NATURE AS A MUSE
Working with natural light and combining in-camera effects with digital post-production, Erik produces evocative and alluring images that are simultaneously timeless and futuristic.
In his early twenties, Erik began experimenting with various ways to use photography and colour drawing inspiration from nature throughout the process.
STILL LIFE
Erik created a selection of still life product photography for each expression of the Double Cask and Sherry Oak Collections. These still life product shots are inspired by classic, Flemish still life paintings of the 17th century and bring the flavour notes of each whisky to life.
Erik's visual representations of the flavour notes of the Double Cask and Sherry Oak Collections evoke a sensory experience. Using colour, texture and props, he captures the tasting notes of each single malt.

Through his expert eye for colour, texture and light, Erik has created a selection of abstract photography captured at The Macallan Estate, each telling a different story. These abstract photographs celebrate the inherent nature that surrounds us, the importance of wood, and the importance of barley in the creation of The Macallan.
