Carefully Chosen Paths
With an entirely natural colour and an ABV of 42%, The Macallan Carta Nautica 20 Years Old reveals an intriguing notion of travel on the nose, palate and finish. It speaks of journeys along carefully chosen paths. Savoured in the glass, the whisky turns navigator, pointing us sensorially in a host of directions.
On the nose, casks that once held bourbon bring rich, creamy vanilla from distant shores, accompanied by vibrant orange peel suggestive of Southern European citrus groves. Charred pineapple and juicy mango are also present, joined by apricot conserve, courtesy of sherry seasoned European oak.
Ocean crossings have led to an exquisite fusion of influences, conveyed through the medium of single malt whisky. A sip reveals notes of sweetness that unfold into peach tea and caramelised figs, before giving way to whispers of leather and chocolate orange.
Whilst indelibly The Macallan, this bottling carries many far-flung stamps in its flavour passport. The finish of toasted orange spice balanced with dried tropical fruits provides a concluding transport of delight.
