    1964

    Scotsman, James Black, developed the first successful beta-blocker to treat heart problems. In South Africa, African National Congress leader Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment. Donald Campbell broke both the world land (403.1mph) and water (276.3mph) speed records. At The Macallan, a second distillery is built alongside the original in response to increasing demand.
