In an enchanting blend of heritage and melody, The Macallan has collaborated with acclaimed Scottish composer Craig Armstrong, for Tales of The Macallan Volume II. Beyond the realms of notes and casks, uncover the shared values and inspirations that weave together this extraordinary collaboration.
Guided by the concept of legacy, Craig explored Scottish folk instruments and music prevalent in Speyside during the time of our founder, Alexander Reid. The resulting soundtrack is a beautiful melody that speaks of a past that has set the path of the future.

"It's an interesting thing when orchestral musicians come [together], because they've all got their own separate lives, but for this one moment, they're all together. That special group of people making something special. It's very similar to The Macallan."

CRAFTING THE SCORE
Drawing upon his own Scottish heritage, Armstrong composed a magnificent melody that arcs the journey of Alexander Reid from teacher to farmer and distiller. His composition is a reflection on what it means to create and be influenced by the landscape of Scotland.
Wood plays a key role within this captivating soundtrack, just as it does within our casks, which helps to create the distinct notes of The Macallan’s whisky. The piece features a 16-piece string orchestra and violin soloist. Craig reflects on the synergies between the ‘fiddle’, the violin, which takes centre stage in the piece and how the wood is central to the sound of the notes created as the wood of the cask is to the creation of notes of The Macallan.
