Introducing The Macallan 79 Years Old
The Macallan is introducing an exceptional new single malt whisky into The Red Collection – The Macallan 79 Years Old. With the latest addition of The Red Collection 79 Years Old, the Collection now comprises nine remarkable single malt whiskies and the highest aged expression released in the Collection to date.
The Macallan 79 Years Old exemplifies the unrivalled commitment to the mastery of wood and spirit for which The Macallan has been known since it was established 1824. It is an expression of our enduring desire to go beyond the ordinary to create peerless single malts.
This Collection has been created from some of the world’s oldest and rarest casks which are the pinnacle of The Macallan portfolio. Distilled decades ago in The Macallan’s curiously small stills, each expression has been matured in sherry seasoned oak casks under the watchful eye of several generations of whisky makers.
The Red Collection is testament to the incomparable craftsmanship, knowledge and skills nurtured by The Macallan Master Whisky Makers, past and present. The distinctive red colour takes inspiration from the red throughout the brand’s history, such as The Macallan ‘Choice Old’ range, the much-loved expression released over a century ago in 1903.
To celebrate the launch of The Macallan 79 Years Old, an animated film and series of illustrations have been created in collaboration with renowned Spanish painter and artist, Javi Aznarez. These artworks depict the incomparable craftsmanship, knowledge, and skills passed from generation to generation of The Macallan Whisky Makers.
"The Red Collection is a huge leap back into the past. It is the embodiment of legacy. These whiskies are incredibly rare. We are fortunate to have tiny pockets of casks that we can explore and when they are at their peak of maturation, share to the world. It is a privilege when you think about the generations that have nurtured this whisky over time, had patience and had the foresight to navigate."
